Muzet and Milla is the easier one as they both start from the same place, beings created to fulfill the will of Maxwell but Muzet never grows beyond being a tool for someone else while Milla is able to become a distinct person beyond that of a tool of Maxwell. I believe those two fights make perfect sense for their is also a comparison to be made between Gaius and Jude as well as Muzet and Milla. Unfortunately, there is one place where they undermine this Milla has a solo fight with Muzet, while Jude has a solo fight with Gaius. Gaius/Muzet as a dark mirror of our heroic duo is going to be a thing going forward, and I wish they had a little more time to drag it out. I want to achieve immortality through not dying Aside from the typical JRPG tropes there are times when the plot just falls flat in the last third of the game (especially Vesperia) or when the characters are repeatedly stupid for the sake of plot (Graces F).

I really like the Tales series and especially how they change the combat around with every new title but they seriously suffer from flaws and can understand why people would avoid them. Until I remembered that this is a JRPG, which the game drove home, when the king pulled a sword of TIME AND SPACE out of the chest of Grand Spirit being.

I actually chuckled when the king claimed the god throne. It would have been a high note to end the game on until that king showed up again. I really appreciated how Maxwell conceded defeat and gave the world to the mortals and spirits, with a "I don't understand, but we'll try it your way" mentality. Of course, it's not entirely the same, since Milla sacrificed herself for Jude and the others while Muzet was coldly abandoned by Maxwell, but honestly, Muzet's codependency problems (and her general lack of stability) probably would've created some issues down the line. Muzet, on the other hand, simply snapped at losing her direction, and rather than try to move forward on her own, she simply found someone else to submit to, even if that other person's ideals were in complete opposition to Maxwell's. Mind you, it ended up pretty much being "Continue along Milla's path", but it's still a pretty solid decision for one who thought he lost everything. The big difference was that Jude eventually decided he had to stand on his own, and do his best to find his own path. When they seemingly lost their places at Maxwell's side, both of them broke down, not knowing what they should do. Both of them were following the path of "Maxwell", and relied on Maxwell to find a purpose for their lives. Perhaps even more interesting is the similarities between Jude and Muzet.

But while Milla eventually comes to realize that letting humans stand on their own is more important than coddling them in the name of preservation (for as Milla pointed out to Gaius himself, they won't always be around to save humanity from themselves), Gaius believes that humanity MUST have a ruler, hence his choice to overthrow Maxwell, who was in the midst of stepping down from his charge If even God isn't cut out to be God, then Gaius might as well take on the job himself. In fact, if anything Milla was even more extreme than Gaius, for she wanted to destroy the Lance outright, as opposed to Gaius keeping it under guard. Milla and Gaius both believed that humans could not be relied up on to rule themselves, and that letting them have the sort of power that comes with the Lance of Kresnik could not be allowed, lest they destroy themselves. Milla and Gaius both attained (either through birth or simple hard work) positions of great authority and were charged with governing humanity, ruling over humans and making sure they didn't overreach and wipe themselves out through acts of war.

But rather interestingly, the opposites in this discussion are not Jude/Gaius and Milla/Muzet like one would normally expect, but rather Milla/Gaius and Jude/Muzet. Now that we've seen this, the one thing I wanted to talk about was the interesting dualities between Jude, Milla, Gaius, and Muzet.
